This up-and-coming voice of Ethio-jazz is fast claiming her place in the spotlight, two generations after the legendary Mulatu Astatke. The Ethiopian-Israeli Ester Rada’s nuanced sound flirts with retro soul and R&B influences and is steeped in a melancholic joie de vivre peculiar to Ethiopian jazz. Expect smooth, stylish and totally danceable moments.

Also known for her acting in her home country of Israel, Ester Rada has recently made a name for herself as a musician. In addition to her Life Happens EP record, recent full-length album and busy touring schedule, Rada has supported Alicia Keys and other major acts. Comparisons have been drawn with Nina Simone, Erykah Badu and Janelle Monáe, evoking an impression of a timeless and yet very much of-the-moment artist.

The 2014 Huvila season kicks off with Jimi Tenor and Nicole Willis. A sexy and authentic 90s house sound is complemented by Tenor’s cool saxophone stylings and Willis’s stunning soul vocals.
