Jazz Finland Live

Roy Hargrove Quintet, led by American trumpeter Roy Hargrove, plays at the Flow Festival 2014 on the Balloon 360 Stage. Showtime 6PM.

Roy Hargrove (b. 1969) is one of the major names of American modern mainstream jazz. Initially, it was Wynton Marsalis who was impressed by his skills when Hargrove was still in junior high school. Marsalis, along with the greats Herbie Hancock, Stanley Turrentine and Joshua Redman, belongs to the big number of artists with whom Hargrove has collaborated. The trumpeter has not kept solely to jazz, however, but the wideness of his stylistic command is evident from his projects with Erykah Badu, D'Angelo and rapper Common. Hargrove has won a Grammy twice.

The Oulu-based stars from the Voice of Finland TV show feature as soloists for Oulu All Star Big Band.

Five singers from Oulu who showed their talents in the Voice of Finland join Oulu All Star Big Band in this concert. In the milieu of Meri Oulu outdoor theatre the rising stars give the audience a selection of soul and swing standards to enjoy.

The soloists are Inga Söder, Tiia Erämeri, Sini Alatalo, Aki Louhela and Juho Schroderus. OASBB is conducted by Tapio Maunuvaara.
