Horror vacui

Horror vacui explores the fear, renunciation, and discovery. Each voice has its counterpart, its shadow, its echo from the previous one and there is no real loneliness. Horror vacui is an entity composed, written and arranged by singer-composer Selma Savolainen. “When creating the Horror vacuin repertoire, I heard tonal colours for which there are counter colours, pairs inside the band and which form living textures together,” says Savolainen. The topics of the English texts include noise inside the head, flight, exhaustion and recovery, as well as the momentary nature of life, love and beauty. The music is inspired by Bix Beiderbeck and Arnold Schönberg as well as recordings by Bill Frisell and Dirty Projectors.
