Flame Jazz kicks off the year 2015 in international company. The first guests of the year arrive from our beloved neighbour, Sweden, on the invitation of drummer Jaska Lukkarinen. He, together with the Swedish guitarist Hans Olding, released a collaborative album, entitled Far From Rio, in autumn 2014 to great critical acclaim, and now the audience of Turku is given a rare opportunity to witness some of the best Swedish jazz talents perform at the intimate milieu of the jazz club Monki. Olding and Lukkarinen are joined by saxophonist Karl-Martin Almqwist and bassist Mattias Wellin –both key figures in the Swedish jazz scene. The same title can be bestowed on their confère Lukkarinen on the Finnish scale; indeed, his input in bringing these internationally acknowledged players to Finland is another proof of this.

In the same concert, a new DJ concept is launched, seeing the jazz bassist Teemu Åkerblom spin some jazz pearls from his collections.
