What does the Baltic Sea sound like with two drum sets? On the Baltic Sea Day, August 29, 2024, Archipelago Sea Jazz brings two master percussionists to Turku, at the maritime center Forum Marinum. In this rare drum duo concert, an irresistible groove and a celebration of rhythm are promised, delivered by Anssi Tirkkonen and Severi Sorjonen. The duo captured the hearts of music lovers during their first joint concert at the Korpo Sea Jazz forest concert in July.
Young drum comet Severi Sorjonen has skyrocketed to become one of the hottest names in the jazz scene, playing with Maja Mannila Trio, Peela, and Iiro Rantala Flock, among others. Sorjonen is currently studying in the Jazz Department of the Sibelius Academy.
Anssi Tirkkonen is one of the most employed young drummers in Finland. His work can be heard in jazz ensembles like the Joonas Tuuri Quartet, Max Zenger Globus, and Riikka Keränen Group, and he also regularly performs with the Turku Jazz Orchestra. Internationally awarded Tirkkonen is also known from the Megasakki children's music band and the Game Music Collective, which performs music from computer games.
