The highly popular Helsinki flamenco Jazz club starts again! Ready for a bohemian acoustic experience? Brace yourselves for an evening of flamenco music spiced with Nordic jazz textures. Come and taste the music that blends the sounds of southern Spain into the Finnish landscape. You do not want to miss the unique warmth of the flamenco jazz evenings at Tenho.

The evening is hosted by the musicians of the acoustic ensemble Cuejero, led by the Spanish artist Javier Sanchez. We recommend that you arrive early in order to avoid queuing.

Musician Jukka Haavisto became known as a vibraphonist specializing in swing jazz. He also mastered the accordion. He made his first public appearance as a musician in 1940, performing two Finnish songs on the harmonica in a broadcast by Yleisradio. In the early years of his career, Haavisto played the accordion and trumpet until he switched to the vibraphone and ended up playing in various bands. Some of the most well-known ones were the Happy Swing Band, Jukka Haavisto Band, and Haavisto Swingers.

"The rhythm of swing felt immediately like my own, and it ignited an interest that has not faded," Haavisto said in an interview with HS for his 90th birthday in the summer of 2020. In the winter of the same year, he made his last public appearance. In 2000, he received the Elvis Award from composers and lyricists for his contributions to the promotion of light music. In 2007, he was awarded the title of Music Counsellor. The Finnish Jazz Federation also honored him.

Jukka Haavisto passed away on Friday, November 24, at the age of 93.

Seppo Kantonen Trio marks a return to the traditional piano-bass-drums trio format for pianist Seppo Kantonen. The ensemble will be touring extensively in Finland in January-February 2024, including a concert in Seinäjoki.

"The lineup began rehearsals for my new composition material in early 2023. The band's expressive language is somewhat free but based on composed elements. In my own opinion, I have only recently found a mixture of consonance and dissonance that I find pleasing. The beautiful drum sound of Markku Ounaskari and the rhythmically strong bassism of Antti Lötjönen, both of whom are also sensitive and quick to react to new situations, support the mood of my songs. Overall, the trio's pursuit of clear expression is, in my opinion, the most fitting description," says Kantonen.
