Mortal Lease interprets compositions by Josefiina Vannesluoma based on the poems of Edith Wharton (1862–1937). The band takes its name from the sonnet series "Mortal Lease," published in 1909, which, when interpreted autobiographically, portrays Wharton's late-life passionate romance and the ensuing tensions in the search for a meaningful existence. The lyrical imagery comes alive in the jazz ensemble's hands, transforming into symphonic scenes. In addition to the piano trio accompanying Vannesluoma, the concert will feature Sampo Kasurinen on alto flute, tenor saxophone, and clarinet. The band is set to release their debut album in October 2023 through Flame Jazz Record
