We Jazz is honored to host the 2020 edition of “Nordic Jazz Comets”, bringing together some of the most exiting talent in Nordic jazz.

Ingibjörg Elsa Turchi has been a mainstay of the Iceland music scene for the recent years, performing with many of the nation’s most beloved musicians in all genres. She released her first solo EP “Wood/Work” in 2017 where her electric bass playing took center stage, together with melodic instrumental layers and improvisation. Here the Icelandic quintet performs material from their recent debut album “Meliae”.

Kadi Vija Key Project is an innovative jazz group built around the outstanding Finnish-Estonian vocal artist and composer Kadi Vija. Her uncommon singing style is influenced by instrumental improvised music, flowing thoughts and abstractness. Vija’s music draws from modernism, jazz and film scores. This quartet, with a refreshing instrumentation of vocals, bass clarinet, guitar and drums, released their debut album “Roaming In The Contemporary Society To Make Peace With It” in May 2020.

Kjetil Mulelid Trio released their debut album in late 2017 on Norway’s prestigious Rune Grammofon label, a trademark that stands for a major deal of the best experimental electronic, jazz and improvised music from Scandinavia. Their acclaimed sophomore album “What You Thought Was Home” was released in August 2019 on the same record label. Pianist Kjetil Mulelid’s compositions expertly balance the energetic, rhythmically complex and harmonically rich music with beautiful, evocative melodies.

With honesty and innovative thinking, this modern, avant-garde jazz trio plays music that both challenges and respects the listener. The Malmö-based combo Post-Sun-Vision are quickly gaining fanbase in the progressive jazz world: outside of their native Sweden, they have already toured in e.g. Poland, Norway and Italy. Though drummer Mario Ochoa has penned the trio’s music from the 2018 self-titled debut to the upcoming second album, the trio stands firmly on all threes: pianist Alice Hernqvist and bassist Aaron Mandelmann bring the dynamic tunes alive and complete the band’s unique sound.

The Danish duo of pianist Nikolaj Svaneborg and drummer Jonas Kardyb present minimalistic and atmospheric soundscapes. They released their debut album”Knob” in March 2019 and it became the Album of the Week on the Danish national radio, and secured the duo two awards at the Danish Music Awards gala. Their live energy brought them a victory in the national jazz competition JazzKonkurrencen 2019.
