Restaurant Origo (Satamakatu 7)
Thu July 14th 21:00
Tickets: 15 / 13 €

Mikael Myrskog – keyboards
Eero Seppä – bass
Sami Nummela – drums

Buba Wii Aa is an organ trio composed by three young Finnish jazz musicians playing cinematic tunes heavily influenced by the 1960’s San Francisco. Strong compositions and the organic and fresh sound of the band (Mikael Myrskog, keyboards / Eero Seppä, double bass / Sami Nummela, drums) really lightens up the mood everywhere they play. We Jazz ltd released Buba Wii Aa’s debut album Taco taco taco! as a cassette release in last September and the next album, this time in vinyl, is coming out on spring 2017.

Experience a new summery concert series with big band Sointi Jazz Orchestra in the stunning milieu of Tori Quarters, just off Helsinki Market Square.

In July, your lunch will be spiced up with a generous dose of jazz when members of Sointi Jazz Orchestra form unique, one-off jazz ensembles to entertain at three different venues. Each concert kicks off at noon.

The first edition takes place in the Brewery Restaurant Bryggeri on Sofiankatu. In keeping with the delicious, no-frills Brewery offerings, we will be in for robust, straight-ahead renditions of jazz and blues standards -- with lots of room for improvisation and surprises!

Steve Noble is London's leading drummer, a fearless and constantly inventive improviser whose super-precise, ultra-propulsive and hyper-detailed playing has galvanized encounters with Derek Bailey, Matthew Shipp, Ishmael Wadada Leo Smith, Evan Parker, Thurston Moore, Ikue Mori, Stephen O'Malley, Joe McPhee, Alex Ward, Rhodri Davies and many, many more. In the early eighties, Noble played with the Nigerian master drummer Elkan Ogunde, Rip Rig and Panic, Brion Gysin and the Bow Gamelan Ensemble, before going on to work with the pianist Alex Maguire and with Derek Bailey (including Company Weeks 1987, 89 and 90). He was featured in the Bailey's excellent TV series on Improvisation for Channel 4 based on his book 'Improvisation; its nature and practise'. He has toured and performed throughout Europe, Africa and America and currently leads the groups N.E.W (with John Edwards and Alex Ward) and DECOY (with John Edwards and Alexander Hawkins).

Co-organised by Kissankusi Records and Mental Alaska ry. Supported by the City of Tampere.
