Afrojazz Club reopens on 14 January 2016 at the legendary Storyville Jazz Club in Helsinki with irresistible Senegalese rhythms! In Spring there will be Afrobeat, Afrofunk, hi-life, Afrojazz, reggae, Ethiojazz, mbalax and world music on offer every other Thursday from January until May.
The opening night will feature the Finno-Senegalese group Superhelle and DJ Borzin with a guest.

Sakari Kukko, known as one of the founders of Piirpauke and Finland's world music pioneer, has created a new style: humbalax, fusing Finnish humppa with Senegalese mbalax.

Let the Afrojazz club bring light and warmth to your winter! Cultures will meet and share the best world music, rhythms and some thoughts of a diverse cooperation. This theme is also seen in decoration by Alvar Gullichsen and in Storyville's menu.

Joonas Haavisto Trio feat. Tivon Pennicott (USA)
Joonas Haavisto Trio will release their third album Oku in January 2016 in Japan and Europe. Trio had played together for ten years and the new album reflects their common journey.
Two-time Grammy winner Tivon Pennicott has become one of the hottest names on the jazz scene in New York City. Bands he has recently played with include Gregory Porter, Al Foster, Roy Hargrove’s RH Factor, Roy Hargrove Big Band and Ari Hoenig. Tivon studied together with Joonas Haavisto at the Frost School of Music in Miami.
