In the 1960s, Ginger Baker became known for his flamboyant and overwhelming drumming. His reputation was further bolstered by his outrageous off-stage antics and fiery temper that has become the stuff of musical legend. Drummer and founder member of both the legendary Cream and super group Blind Faith, Ginger Baker is still considered one of the foremost rock ’n’ roll drummers of all time. Although the 1960s were a time of psychedelic rock and early progressive rock, his key musical influences can be traced back to the jazz scene, including the explosive sound of Max Roach and Art Blakey. In the early 1970s, Baker established close creative links with Africa, including collaborations with Fela Kuti.

At Huvila, Baker will be appearing with his latest band the Ginger Baker Jazz Confusion, serving up dense fusion jazz with Afro and prog influences.

The evening kicks off with Finland’s much talked-about jazz phenomenon, the Tampere-based free jazz champions, Black Motor.

“I do have a God-given gift that only a few drummers have.” – Ginger Baker, Mojo Magazine
