Kalle Kalima, born in 1973 in Helsinki and currently residing in Berlin, has collaborated with notable figures in the music industry. He has worked with trumpet players such as Tomasz Stanko and Leo Wadada Smith, saxophonists Juhani Aaltonen and Anthony Braxton, bassists Greg Cohen, Teppo Hauta-aho, and Sirone, guitarist Marc Ducret, composers Michael Wertmüller, Eero Hämeenniemi, and Simon Stockhausen, pianist Jason Moran, drummers Jim Black and Tony Allen, vocalists Andreas Schaerer and Linda Sharrock, as well as ensembles like Ensemble Resonanz, Ndr Big Band, UMO, and Jazzanova. Kalima studied jazz guitar at the Sibelius Academy and Hanns Eisler Hochschule in Berlin.

The years from 2000 to 2023 have been busy for Kalima. He has toured mostly in Europe but also in Africa, Asia, and America. Kalima's latest release is the trio album Evolution with Andreas Schaerer and Tim Lefvebren (known for his work with David Bowie on Blackstar), which was released in September 2023 (ACT). The album Flying like Eagles, featuring Kalle Kalima and Knut Reiersrud on guitars, Jim Black on drums, and Phil Donkin on bass, was released in August 2019, and the release concert took place at the Berlin Philharmonic. Kalima's Trio "Long Winding Road" with bassist Greg Cohen (known for his work with Tom Waits and Ornette Coleman) and Max Andrzejewski toured with their album High Noon (ACT) in 2016. The Klima Kalima band, with Oliver Steidle and Oliver Potratz, won the Neuer Deutscher Jazzpreis in 2008 and has released five albums. Kalima also leads K-18, a Finnish ensemble that won the Jazz Emma award in 2013. He is a member of the Kuu band with Christian Lillinger, Jelena Kuljic, and Frank Möbus, which has received international recognition for their albums Lampedusa Lullaby and Artificial Sheep.
