The first of the two We Jazz “marathon nights” brings together exciting music from all over the globe and various variations of creative expression. In Suvilahti, we’ll have four rooms: two in Tiivistämö, plus the atmospheric Magito and Mittarikorjaamo. Join us and dive into it!
“An eruption of cyclic motifs, pounding clusters, and insistent grooves, [Ahmed]’s Nights On Saturn is an inspired reimagining of Ahmed Abdul-Malik’s pioneering Arabic jazz.” – Bandcamp Daily
Hot on the heels of We Jazz Reworks Vol. 2, live electronic music pioneer Carl Stone collaborates with one of the very artists he sampled on the album, Brooklyn-based We Jazz recording experimental baritone saxophonist Jonah Parzen-Johnson.
”No Scandinavian group since Atomic has so powerfully addressed and remade the free jazz of the 60s like Cortex. In a country whose creative music scene is celebrated for its bold hybrids of disparate sounds, Cortex goes another way, embracing tradition in its own unique way.” – Peter Margasak, Chicago Reader
German saxophonist Silke Eberhard and Mike Reed present an inspired meeting of two creative musicians, sax+drums.
Designers band members Joachim Florent and Will Guthrie stay in Helsinki for an extra night to perform their solo music at We Jazz. Both are highly regarded as solo artists (as is the third Designers member, pianist Aki Rissanen) with unheard sonic universes opening up each time they take the stage alone.
We Jazz recording baritone sax experimentalist Jonah-Parzen Johnson recently joined forces with Turkish drummer Berke Can Özcan in Istanbul. Their debut rendezvous proved successful, so here’s part 2.
New York based artist Ka Baird travels to Helsinki for a one of a kind 5-day residency, which is set to yield unexpected new music each time – and different each time.
Little North come from Denmark. Their set at this spring’s Jazzahead showcase was a revelation. The only question that remained was “how can we book this band NOW, please?”.
Uusi Aika celebrates their new We Jazz Records album. This is calm, meditative and deep music for turbulent times. (“Uusi Aika” is Finnish for “a new era”).
We Jazz DJs spin all night long at the Tiivistämö “bar room” with friends joining in. One of them is DJ Rui Miguel Abreu from Lisbon, more to be announced.
