Django Collective Helsinki feat. Sami Saari, Olli Soikkeli & Jarmo Hynninen,Juttutupa, Säästöpankinranta 6, helsinki16.5. At 21:00

Who was Django Reinhardt, the virtuoso guitarist who played with only two fingers and succeeded in combining Romanian melancholy moods with the happy chanson and swing that had arrived from America to Europe? Django, vallaton virtuoosi is a new translation by Otto Särkkä of Noël Balen's original work, which will take the reader on a mental trip to Paris of the 1930s and 1940s and tell the story of Django. The book will be published this month by Aviador Kustannus.

Despite being a newish group, Django Collective Helsinki has already built a reputation for themselves. The ensemble has performed actively in a variety of spheres; at jazz festivals, clubs and private parties, and is known for hosting phenomenal jam sessions in Helsinki. The group’s name is, indeed, a signpost: their repertoire consists of old, rootsy and upbeat gypsy swing in the style of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli from the 1930s to 50s.Django Collective Helsinki has collaborated with such musicians as Paulus Schäfer and Olli Soikkeli, as well as the sax and clarinet veteran, Antti Sarpila.
At Juttutupa, the group will be joined by Sami Saari, Olli Soikkeli and Jarmo Hynninen.
