Susanna Aleksandra Quartet

Estonian vocalist-composer lyricist Susanna Aleksandra and Finnish pianist Joonas Haavisto started working together in 2018. They share a common vision in giving music multiple layers by uniting complex harmonies and forms with meaningful lyrics and strong melodies. For Susanna and Joonas it is important to allow the music to dictate where it wants to go. This brings versatility and honesty to their music. Nothing is done to satisfy the ego of the composer but only to serve the music. Influences of traditional and modern jazz, classical, popular and folk music are unified under the modern jazz umbrella, the stylistic choices of the musicians and the fantastic ensemble playing of some of the top Finnish jazz musicians. As a singer, Susanna Aleksandra focuses on versatility and storytelling. Their album Souls of the Night is released in Japan in March 2020 (Blue Gleam). The band will be on tour in Japan in May 2020.

Light and shadows. Stories. Images. Contrasts, coincidences. Hands and Omens’ evocative, layered sounds take the listener through a spectrum of moods. Hands and Omens is a rule-breaking jazz trio consisting of three of the most expressive players in the current Helsinki music scene. The group's debut album Where the Solid Ends was released in September 2019. Above all, Hands and Omens is seeking a new kind of acoustic sound, keeping freedom and communicative group playing as their cornerstones. The plain instrumentation is used creatively, without predefined frames. To their unique compositions, musicians have searched inspiration from for example Edgar Allan Poe’s, Daniil Harms’s and Knut Hamsun's literature.
