Jazz-Espa: Milo & MosesEspan lava, helsinki1.8. At 12:00

Milo Mäkelä – el. gtr, Moses Kuloniemi – drs, Jon Pettersson – db
Trio Milo & Moses was started in 2015, when the founding members were only 13-year-old teenagers. Indeed, the group is the youngest jazz band in Finland to release an album and tour regularly. Their easy, enjoyable groove jazz sounds fresh but mature thanks to their seamless teamwork. The trio issued their second album at last summer’s Flow Festival, and the third chapter is already underway.

Johannes Salomaa – sax, fl, Risto Kumpulainen – keys, Petri Pietilä – gtr, Timo Tuppurainen – b, Markus Jaatinen – perc, Niklas Ahlsved – drs
The rhythm’n’jazz group Hutera’s members are familiar faces from the bands of several well-known Finnish artists, including Marjo Leinonen, Astrid Swan and Lenni-Kalle Taipale. Now they have started a band whose key philosophy is simple: to swing and to swing hard. With that aim in their mind, they travel from one atmosphere to another, sometimes ending up even somewhere cinematic. Their debut Here It Is! came out last year to great acclaim in Finland.
Jazz-Espa: Tuomas J. Trio feat. Manuel DunkelEspan lava, helsinki1.8. At 17:30

Tuomas J. Turunen – p, Manuel Dunkel – sax, Jori Huhtala – b, Tuomas Timonen – drs
After a period of keeping a low profile, pianist Tuomas J. Turunen’s trio returns to the limelight with new energy and a feature artist; the Yrjö Jazz Award -winning Manuel Dunkel, one of Finland’s finest jazz saxophonists. The trio’s 2017 album Megetme is an interesting concoction of the tradition of jazz and Nordic jazz sound. In some of his pieces, Turunen pays homage to such jazz legends as Thelonious Monk and Cedar Walton, while some of them sweep us to the serene calm of Finnish forests.
