In 2026, it will be 100 years since jazz symbolically arrived in Finland with the ship Andania. The year thus marks a historic centenary celebration for Finnish jazz: Jazz in Finland 100. The anniversary highlights Finnish jazz and its artists both in Finland and abroad, celebrating jazz as part of Finland’s cultural heritage. The Jazz in Finland 100 campaign is coordinated by the Finnish Jazz Federation.

Rabbit Hole is an international trio led by saxophonist Pauli Lyytinen, combining the musical visions of three creative and daring explorers. The band's debut album, Rabbit Hole, was released on the Eclipse Music label in January 2026. This electroacoustic ensemble features Lyytinen on saxophone, EWI, drum machine, and live effects; Norwegian Andreas Løwe on effected piano and synthesizers; and percussionist Tatu Rönkkö.

Rabbit Hole offers a lush soundscape that combines rich compositions, complex rhythmic textures, and imaginative improvisations. The band's motto is Lewis Carroll's famous line from *Alice's Adventures in Wonderland*: "Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."

The depths of rabbit hole will also be explored at the Restaurant Vanha Paja with BluesBerjantai. There, the deepest essence of roots music will be first served by long-time blues veteran Jarkka Rissanen together with his Greasy Tuesday ensemble.

While Rissanen represents decades of solid experience, the other artist of the evening, Sylvi Saarekas, known for her Blues Bizarre band, among others, will bring the audience a tidal wave of young energy, a sense of style and delightfully skillful playing, making her debut at OutoJazz.

Joonas Haavisto Trio celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The milestone concerts will feature a comprehensive overview of the band's output: compositions from Joonas Haavisto's five albums, from his debut album Blue Waters to the present day.

The trio is made up of pianist Joonas Haavisto, bassist Antti Lötjönen and drummer Joonas Riippa. The band has established itself at the forefront of Finnish jazz in the 21st century, with a distinctive sound based on strong ensemble playing and subtle interaction. The trio's repertoire is mainly built on Haavisto's compositions, balancing beautiful melodies, long dynamic arcs and freer sections. Influences come from jazz tradition, classical music and hip-hop. The traditional jazz trio form is combined with an original approach, unpretentious expression and the freshness of Scandinavian jazz.

The band has performed at internationally renowned venues such as the Blue Note Jazz Clubin New York, DC Jazz Festival, Jazzahead, Rochester International Jazz Festival and Pori Jazz. The trio has released four albums and has gained particular popularity in Japan, where it has toured and performed at the legendary Tokyo Jazz Festival. The trio has also performed as soloists with some of the country's top orchestras, including the Lapland Chamber Orchestraand the Central Ostrobothnia Chamber Orchestra.

Pianist and composer Joonas Haavisto is one of the most interesting Nordic jazz pianists. He has performed at major festivals and clubs around the world, and in 2017 he was awarded the prestigious Steinway Artist title as the first Finnish jazz pianist.
