Jazz Suomi 100: The Five Corners Quintet,Sellosali, espoo13.2. At 19:00

The Five Corners Quintet, a pioneer of Finnish jazz music in the early 2000s, will make a temporary comeback in 2025 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album, Chasin’ The Jazz Gone By.
The band enjoys international popularity and, with over 50,000 albums sold, is one of Finland's most significant jazz bands of all time. In the mid-2000s, TFCQ's energetic, danceable music, rooted in the jazz tradition of the 1960s, made its way onto DJ playlists and into the consciousness of young clubbers. The live band, consisting of Jukka Eskola on trumpet, Timo Lassy on tenor saxophone, Mikael Jakobsson on piano, Antti Lötjönen on bass, and Teppo Mäkynen on drums, toured extensively around the world and became particularly popular in Japan. Since then, the band members have gone on to successful solo careers and are now among the most prominent musicians on the Finnish jazz scene. Now the band is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its debut album by playing updated versions of the album's material that respect the original atmosphere.
In 2026, it will be 100 years since jazz symbolically arrived in Finland with the ship Andania. The year thus marks a historic centenary celebration for Finnish jazz: Jazz in Finland 100. The anniversary highlights Finnish jazz and its artists both in Finland and abroad, celebrating jazz as part of Finland’s cultural heritage. The Jazz in Finland 100 campaign is coordinated by the Finnish Jazz Federation.
