Jazz Finland Live

Senegalese-born percussionist, singer and dancer Ismaila Sané's musical repertoire is wide and long. In Finland Sané is known also as a band member of Piirpauke, Senfi, Galaxy and Buddha Surfers. In his own 11-piece Saïsba group the West African traditions mix in with afrobeat, funk, rock and jazz rhythms. The smaller version, Saïsba 6tet, was founded in 2018. With the jazz hard-hitters like Kari Ikonen on board, this sextet leans slightly more towards jazz tradition and improvisation. Sané’s first solo album Ekiinafrik was released on Eclipse Music label in the fall of 2019.

Vocalist Mia Simanainen’s quartet has their roots in various music styles: from jazz improvisation to baroque music andfrom Argentinian tango to contemporary classical. The band released their debut album in 2016. In the beginning Ajaton’s repertoire consisted of improvised tapestries, folklore aesthetics and 16th century lute songs. On their sophomore album, Early Music in the Latest Way – which is due this year – the band focuses on renaissance- and baroque-era compositions that are dressed in contemporary and quirky outfits by these four timeless tailors.
