Still impressed with the number of brilliant women musicians/composers/leaders at Go Northward: Jazz Connective in Helsinki it's only natural for us to continue in this manner.

Joanna composes music with analogue and contemporary techniques. Plays acoustic (mostly piano) and electronic instruments (computer, workstations, beatmachines), planting and growing them into multiplied layers consisting of one texture. As a follower of all-embracing art form and synthesis of arts and science, she also constructs installations. In her projects she seeks for absolute music communication and melting of personalities involved in musical narration.

Leveraging technology in uncanny ways, her music is digital alongside analog, acoustic alongside electronic and improvised alongside charted. Elodie Pasquier & Gilles Coronado : Plaisir d'Offrir (Fr)

Elodie Pasquier: clarinets

Elodie Pasquier is currently composer and leader of the "Mona" quintet, with an album signed with the Laborie Jazz label. Her solo also holds an important place in her artistic life, with an album planned for 2019, still with the Label Laborie Jazz.

Today, Elodie is the clarinettist of Jean-Marie Machado's "Danzàs" orchestra (ECM Records - La Buissonne), "Les Etrangers Familiers" of the Compagnie des Musiques Ouïr, "The Very Big Experimental Toubifri Orchestra" (Iran le Label) alongside Loïc Lantoine, her brand new quartet surrounded by Ch. Monniot, D. Ithursarry and A. Benoit.

She was also noticed as a guest or in meetings with Vincent Courtois, Franck Vaillant, Seb Boisseau, Tri Collectif, pAn-G, Fatso, la Marmite Infernale, Cirque Plume...

Elodie has also been the clarinettist of "orTie" (Laborie Jazz), "Marimbas de l'Exil" (Franco-Mexican opera / Charlotte Nessy), "Kazio Show", "Singe". She will have been a member of the Lyon collective "Grolektif" for 4 years.

She is now an associate artist of the Label Laborie Jazz, and accompanied by Metisse Musik.

Elodie Pasquier have been awarded the Prize for Best Instrumentalist at the Tremplin d' Avignon, winner of the Tremplin Jazz(s)Ra with the duo "orTie", elected "Etoile du Jazz" by Citizen Jazz, Best Instrumentalist at the Tremplin Jazz d' Oloron-Sainte-Marie.

Gilles Coronado: guitar

Living in Paris since 1991, Gilles Coronado participates in the musical movement that is being developed at Les Instants Capavirés (Montreuil). In parallel to his instrument, writing and internship courses such as at the "Banff Center for Fine Arts (1992)" and then his self-taught work, he developed his vocabulary in contact with other musicians such as: Guillaume Orti, Marc Ducret, Barre Philipps, Bruno Chevillon, the Hask collective, etc....

In 1994, he founded the Urban Mood group (Guillaume Orti, Vincent Ségal and Norbert Lucarain). Participates in Thôt since its creation, as well as Caroline the group of Sarah Murcia, shares experiences with contemporary dance (Mathilde Monnier, Catherine Contour, Thierry Baë, Loïc Touzé,...), also records fictions for France Culture, a musical creation for "Tephra Formations" (play by Philippe Katerine and the designer Robert Stadler, Beaubourg), as well as musical programs for Arte... Since one year he took over the management of his own group "Coronado" (Matthieu Metzger, Antonin Rayon and Franck Vaillant)

The trainings with which he is currently performing are: Coronado, Thôt, Caroline, Fred Poulet, Melc, Louis Sclavis, Francis and his Peintres invite Katerine to the French song repertoire.

Insufficient Funs & Mikko Innanen (IRL-FIN)

Special collaboration between the irish duo Inssuficient Funs and finnish saxophonist Mikko Innanen for a very special show for Jazz Connective Finland.

G̶i̶r̶l̶s̶ Boys just want to have fun and these ones certainly do, with Sam Comerford playing the monstrous and rare bass saxophone with his now trademark infectious energy alongside Matthew Jacobson’s playful drumming and ear for a catchy, quirky tune.

The duo – two of the preeminent figures in Ireland’s creative/improvised music scene – have been cavorting around Europe since early 2016. The music has been described as “Ed Blackwell and Don Cherry meets Autechre”(composer/performer Matthew Noone), “like a slow-burning Nirvana” (All About Jazz) and “moving seamlessly between gnarly grooves and loose, open textured freedom, using simple ‘compositions’ as starting points for adventures at the outer reaches of music” (Cormac Larkin, Irish Times).

Performance highlights so far include 12 Points Festival in Saint Sebastian, Jazzy Colors Festival in Paris and Another Love Story Festival in Meath, Ireland. They also released their debut eponymous EP to strong reviews from publications at home and abroad, being hailed as “delightfully unhinged from expectation” and “intricate and thoughtful and very accessible” by influential Irish bloggers Nialler9 and Remy Connolly respectively.

2019 will see the Dublin/Brussels based joy-seekers romp around Ireland, developing new material to be recorded later in the year for their first full-length album.

Jazz guitarist Kari Antila (BE) and New New Trio on tour in October Two Finns, Smalls Jazz Club in New York City 2018, waiting in a line. What are the odds to meet in these circumstances! From this point of view, they started their collaboration. Sometimes life can guide us to directions we can't foresee. After randomly meeting in a line of Smalls Jazz Club and getting to know each other over a cold beer, they noticed sharing common thoughts in life and art. Three weeks from that, they played their first gig together at Spectrum, Brooklyn NYC. "I remember my exact feeling when I met Tuomo at the very first time. I've had a feeling that we have been friends from the childhood or something. We shared a common thoughts in life and being a musician. After to our first playing session I felt that we have to continue this beautiful journey together somehow, says Tomi" New New Trio is co-lead by New York-based pianist Tuomo Uusitalo and drummer Tomi Kämäräinen, who currently resides in Denmark. The group performs original music from the band members, influenced by nordic culture and music, as well as being rooted in jazz tradition. New New Trio will be collaborating with guitarist Kari Antila in October 2019, touring in Finland, Estonia and Latvia. On this tour you can also hear New York-based bassist Kaisa Mäensivu. Kaisa is known from groups such as Kaisa's Machine, Signe, also she was the recipient of the 2018 award 'Pori Jazz Rising Star'. In continuation of the first gig, New New Trio plays a tour in October 2019 in Finland, Estonia and Latvia between 23-30.10.2019.

Vibraphonist Panu Savolainen’s jazz trio Herd celebrates its ten-year journey with an extensive tour in Finland. Herd released the critically acclaimed album X last February and is now heading on tour from 8 October until 31 October. Fourteen cities covering tour is produced together with Jazz Finland.

Herd was founded in 2009 between Savolainen, bassist Mikko Pellinen and drummer Tuomas Timonen. Trio is especially known of numerous collaboration projects, most famous being the Jazzbasilli with vocalist Aili Ikonen. Their debut album Live!! was released 2011 and the same year they won the distinguished European Jazz Competition at the North Sea Jazz festival in the Netherlands. They have hosted their own HERD club nights at National Theatre and toured in Australia in 2015 and in Ethiopia between 2016 and 2017.

With the original compositions of the band members, Herd returns to its roots to multidimensional, melancholy and beautiful trio play with its new X album. The album recorded in July 2018 boldly exploits the possibilities of studio technology, although on live concerts the band still relies on the acoustic swing.
