Trumpeter Kalevi Louhivuori is known to handle his American jazz traditions with care, and turning his Davis-Ellington-influences into sophisticated, soulful tunes with modern approach. On his upcoming second album with this quintet he gives a nod to American noir, with a Helsinki twist, as the Stories album is a narrative of a late-night taxi driver in the colourful Kallio district.

Tomi Nikku 5tet

keikka

Trumpeter-composer Tomi Nikku is one of the stars of the new Finnish jazz generation. He is both, a productive composer in his own projects and active member in such bands as Bowman Trio, Maxxxtet, Alder Ego and Sointi Jazz Orchestra. Also he has performed as a soloist for the UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra big band. The rare instrumentation of this quintet makes Nikku’s compositions sound exceptionally fresh and nuanced.
