Saxophone innovator Derek Brown’s unique playing style, using creative, new “beatbox-like” techniques, has wowed audiences across the globe. 

Previously the director of jazz studies at Abilene Christian University for six years, Derek now lives and performs in Chicago, USA, playing in various bands and projects around the area and throughout the world. 

His recent BEATBOX SAX music videos and weekly tutorials on YouTube have been very popular among saxophonists and music lovers alike (over 5 million total views), leading to endorsements with Legere, JodyJazz, P.Mauriat, BG, and AKG.

“One of the greatest trumpet players of all times”, is the common opinion about the American trumpet player Thad Jones among jazz historians.

Nevertheless, Jones was first and foremost an arranger and a composer. He worked together with Count Basie Orchestra, The Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra and the Danish Radio Big Band. Even today his compositions form a big part of the main repertoire of big bands.

Usually orchestras only play some greatest hits of the comprehensive list of compositions by Thad Jones. This lunch concert is an exception, as UMO performs some of the less-known masterpieces of Jones. The audience can expect to hear elegant big band fun and lively solos!

The conductor of the concert is Ville Vannemaa.

The concert is played at Savoy Theatre at 12–1 p.m. and is free of charge. It is possible to book a ticket for free from the outlets of  Savoy Theatre or for a fee of €1 from Lippupiste.
