Summer Jazz Club starts at Poppari! This summer jazz is in the air in Jyväskylä as the monthly Summer Jazz Club takes over Poppari, beginning from 27 May. Each month, two up-and-coming young groups that have strong ties to Jyväskylä city will take the stage and jam to their - and the audience's - heart's content. The club will be organised on 27 May, 17 June, 22 July and 12 August 2014. In June, it is Rural Citizens' and trio Backdoor Boys' turn to take the Summer Jazz Club stage.

Each Rural Citizens member comes from a different musical background. The group's aim is to use the framework of Scandinavian jazz but to serve their own ends of creating an individual and unique sound. Guitarist Heikki Selamo has played experimental, electronic jazz in Virta, bassist Simo Kärki is a member of indie band Hello Giants and drummer Teemu Mustonen is a familiar face in the punk rock scene of Oulu and rock and jazz circles in Jyväskylä. Rural Citizens combines distinctly Finnish sounds to urban jazz music, but their music iincorporates influences from country and surf music, without forgetting free jazz either.

Backdoor Boys is a traditional trio line-up, whose members mix their personal musical whims and flings into traditional American jazz music. In addition to original compositions, Backdoor Boys' repertoire consists of loan pieces where jazz standards, the tradition of Finnish popular song and European art music shake hands. At Poppari, the group is joined by guest artist, guitarist Hector Lepe, who has formerly gigged in Finland with Marian Petrescu. The result is a quartet brimming with energy and full of surprises.
