Agatha 2: LInda Fredriksson, UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra, Kerkko Koskinen,Huvila, helsinki31.8. At 19:00

Agatha, the first instrumental recording composed by Kerkko Koskinen in 2007, received a wonderful sequel Agatha 2 last fall. Emma and Teosto award-winning jazz musician, saxophonist Linda Fredriksson shines as the soloist of the UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra. With the new album, Agatha also returns to Huvila, where in the summer of 2007 the first part of the pair of albums was celebrated in a sold-out concert.

The bold tone of Kerkko Koskinen, who was originally known as the musical engine of Ultra Bra, meets the visionary and sensitive interpretation of Fredriksson, who became an international jazz star with her album Juniper, and the great sound of Finland’s leading big band UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra. The fact that the sequel, like the first Agatha album, is the first new release in more than ten years by Ricky-Tick Records, which had a central influence on the new rise of domestic jazz in the 21st century, brings its own spice. Helsingin Sanomat’s critic Harri Uusitorppa gave the album a full five stars in his review.

In the concert, the UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra is conducted by Mikko Hassinen.

The night’s opening act is Iisa, who ends her recording break of this year and comes to Huvila with her five-person live band. The singer-songwriter is preparing her fifth studio album and will play a set tailored specifically for the last night of August that is full of her gig classics and audience favourites. Having entered the public eye in the cult band Regina, Iisa is in many ways an exceptionally seasoned artist within the Finnish musical field. She operates in the most progressive and innovative realm of pop, while also existing in a musical universe of her own. Iisa is known for her strong autofictional lyrics as well as the hits she has written for several top Finnish artists.

TRI is a jazz trio that was formed in 2020. Its musicians have studied at the youth department of Sibelius Academy's jazz line, which can be heard in their airy and relaxed playing. The band also has a local touch - bassist Tuomas Talvi has completed basic music studies at Kerava Music Institute.

The sound of the band is inspired by the tradition of saxophone trios and heavily relies on improvisation and the traditions of jazz music. Their repertoire includes original compositions by the members of the band. They play well-coordinated, straightforward and energetic jazz. Young talents at work!
