Light and shadows. Stories. Images. Contrasts, coincidences. Hands and Omens’s evocative, layered sounds take the listener through a spectrum of moods. Hands and Omens is a rule-breaking jazz trio consisting of three of the most expressive players in the current Helsinki music scene. The group's debut album is released in September 2019. Above all, Hands and Omens is seeking a new kind of acoustic sound, keeping freedom and communicative group playing as their cornerstones. The three individual voices of Nikita Rafaelov on piano, Silva Kallionpää on violin and Joonas Tuuri on double bass come together in support of each other. The plain instrumentation is used creatively, without predefined frames. To their unique compositions, musicians have searched inspiration from for example Edgar Allan Poe’s, Daniil Harms’s and Knut Hamsun's literature

And when it comes to the interpreters, especially Dusty Springfield has left a huge mark on him. George Gershwin revisited by a phenomenal clarinet and piano duo from France. In their intimate interplay Jean-Marc Foltz and Stéphan Oliva reinterpret the master of the ultramarine blue in magnificent night music that breathes and resonates with silence.
The album GERSHWIN has been released on Vision Fugitive -records on May 2016:
Clearly, a George Gershwin tribute recording doesn’t just come down to a selection of celebrated standards played by accomplished musicians emulating his style. More so than with any other repertoire, a deep understanding of his rich harmonies, keen awareness of his history – making music that never gets old sound new again – and singular savvy to eschew every jazz cliché in the book while respecting tradition is paramount. Clarinettist Jean-Marc Foltz and pianist Stéphan Oliva have been cultivating these three distinctive qualities for over a decade.
