Jazz Finland Live

Schema-kvartetti (Schema Quartet) performs with Hungarian pianist Lásló Süle at the Hungarian Cultural and Scientific Centre in Helsinki. Süle and Schema have appearedon the venue's stage together before to great success. The pianist composed a piece entitled  "The Bridge of Sorrow" for the quartet to perform at the 70th anniversary of the Hungarian holocaust, and the pieces that we will hear in the concert have likewise been penned by László.

Schema-kvartetti is a string quartet, composed of Csilla Szilvay (cello), Helmi Horttana (violin), Elisa Rusi-Matero (violin) ja Matleena Vehmaa (alto violin). Horttana and Rusi-Matero  are members of the Radio Symphony Orchestra, Vehmaa teaches at Riihimäki Music School and Szilvay at East Helsinki Music Institute. They received a Teosto grant this year to finance a commissioned piece from Jussi-Matti Haavisto for the 150th anniversary of Jean Sibelius.

László Süle (b.1955) teaches the piano, history of music, didactics and composition at the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. Initially a student of composition, he fell in love with jazz improvisation and ended up graduating from the jazz department of Béla Bartók Conservatory. Süle moved to Finland in 1989 to pursue a career as a music teacher. He has released several albums both - original compositions and other composers' works - and performed with jazz bands and chamber orchestras alike.
