Tuomo, the number one name of Finnish soul, whose fourth album will be released in January, and UMO joined forces a year ago and played four concerts. Now they are back for more. Tuomo x UMO multiplies one world-beater with another and the result will be more than the sum of its parts. Tuomo’s soulful compositions will have a completely new look in the hands of a 17-piece big band. The concert will feature unique arrangements of new songs, old favorites and a few soul-classics chosen by Tuomo. The orchestra is conducted by Antti Rissanen.
Tuomo, whose full name is Tuomo Prättälä, is a Helsinki-based soul singer, jazz pianist, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist. He first came to the attention of the musical public in the early 2000s, performing with the award-winning jazz ensemble Ilmiliekki Quartet and the cool nu-soul ensemble Quintessence. Tuomo’s first solo album, My Thing (2007), was acclaimed by critics and went gold. His following albums, Reaches Out For You (2009) and My Own Private Sunday (2010), broadened his palette to beyond soul. Both reached the top 10 on the official Finnish recording sales list on their release. The New Mystique album, which will be released in January 2014, features a new kind of Tuomo. As a result of a four-year journey of exploration in music, he crosses genre borders and surprises with new, more electronic idiom.
