Jazz Finland Live

Four musicians have come together to form a special ensemble. Bassist Kaisa Mäensivu forms the tonal center of the quartet. Chien Chien Lu, featured on DownBeat’s “25 for the Future” list, combines jazz elements with her classical background on the vibraphone. Nicole McCabe plays the alto saxophone, her tone described as “lyrical yet powerful” (DownBeat). Mareike Wiening provides structure, energy, and subtle nuances on the drums.

The ensemble was formed for an international tour. The musicians first met in New York, and later in Europe. A concert announcement called them “four musicians in a class of their own” (Porgy & Bess). The Stadtgarten Cologne spoke of “a rare example of jazz girl power” (Stadtgarten Cologne).

Chien Chien Lu will replace vibraphonist Sasha Berliner in the concert.
