Plop & Junnu
The wild and free jazz trio PLOP, founded in 2007 by saxophonist Mikko Innanen, bassist Ville Herrala, and drummer Joonas Riippa, joined forces with the living legend of Finnish music, saxophonist and flutist Juhani "Junnu" Aaltonen, for the first time in 2018. Fiasko Records released the quartet's album PLOP & JUNNU in the spring of 2022, and the record won the Emma Award for the best jazz album of 2022.
Elin Forkelid Plays For Trane
The musical significance of John Coltrane is reflected in the fact that he has been an inspiration for both the 87-year-old Juhani Aaltonen and the 39-year-old Elin Forkelid. For many jazz listeners, Coltrane's spiritual music is still the true and "best" jazz. Elin Forkelid and her quintet manage to imprint their own signature on the music while maintaining a firm grip on its spirituality. This is not surprising, as all the members of the quintet are well-known individual musicians in the realm of Swedish "free" jazz.

Sun-Mi Hong Quintet

Tickets 30€, Saturday pass 45€
Composer, conductor, and drummer Sun-Mi Hong has quickly risen to become one of the most shining stars among modern jazz musicians in Europe.
Sun-Mi Hong composes all the music for her ensemble herself. Her music reflects the influence of the American tradition, but her Korean background adds an intriguing touch. Her compositions consist of catchy melodies infused with impressionistic soundscapes and dramatic tension. The members of the ensemble master their instruments virtuosically and bring their own unique contributions to the music. Together, they create a dynamic and vibrant sonic landscape that captivates the listener. An essential part of Sun-Mi Hong's music is her groovy and meditative drumming. She was nominated as one of the top three international drummers in the category of the German Jazz Prize.
The Sun-Mi Hong Quintet has released three albums, with the latest one titled Resonance coming out in 2022 under the Edition Records label.
