Thirty years of great jazz, surprises and cosy atmosphere. The anniversary year welcomes artist such as 3TM, Mopo, Samuli Putro, Mikko Innasen Maakuntalaulu-uudistus and hot French names Claudia Solail & Benjamin Moussay and Papanosh.
The 13th edition of the annual Jazzahead! trade fair presents Poland as their partner country. The Finnish companies participate in the fair under the Music Finland umbrella.
The third week of April sees the annual Jazzahead! trade fair take over the city of Bremen. In addition to hanging out at the Messehall, the famous Town Musicians may be spotted playing alongside some cool Finnish cats at the Friday night afterparty jam.
Gourmet sextet, combining jazz and schlager, is set to release their fourth full length album En garde on 27th of April by Fiasko Records. The ensemble led by guitarist Esa Onttonen and saxophonist Mikko Innanen performs at record release concerts in Finland and France.
The concert at the club Kuudes linja on May 17th brings together Muovibabylon’s mix of striking spoken word, jazz and experimental music and the visual feature of Emma Ainala for the Muovibabylon album. The live concept of Muovibabylon is based on the album of the same name by soloist and poet Beibi P and Mikko Sarvanne Hip Company, which consist of young talents of Finnish jazz.
The first of the two Finnish groups to appear at this year’s Jazzahead showcase is Joonas Haavisto Trio who have been playing together for more than ten years. While the instrumentation may be conventional, their approach is original and confident and leans on a no-nonsense take on what may perhaps be called ‘Scandinavian freshness’. Seamless communication between the band members is an indispensable part of their playing philosophy.
In the spring of 2019 Jaz Finland produces two Finnish tours and supports two domestic tours, that are produced by a partner company. Apply now for the tours via an electronic form.
This year, some serious improvisation is to land at the European Jazz Meeting showcase at Jazzahead, when Finnish saxophonist Pauli Lyytinen presents his acoustic quartet Magnetia Orkesteri (Magnetia Orchestra) at Bremen.
Tampere Hall's autums begins with traditional Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra concert at Sorsapuisto on August 10th. At the concert, lead by the Chief Conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali, the actors of TTT-Theatre perform interpretations of musical pieces such as West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein. This autumn we also hear four Finnish jazz legends, Paula Koivuniemi with roots arrangements and rock dad’s children interpretating their father’s hits.
