The 28th Oulu Music Festival takes place on March 11 - 24. The versatile festival received a grant from the Arts Promotion Centre Taike for their project to improve the concert experience for the hearing impaired.
New Finnish vocal jazz will be in the pipeline with Jay Kortehisto’s self-titled solo debut on 9 March.
Jukka Perko, one of the most prestigious saxophonists in Finland, tours nine cities with his solid partners-in-crime, bassist Antti Lötjönen and drummer Teppo Mäkynen. The dynamic trio’s repertoire comes from their debut album DIzzy, where the saxophonist makes his long-awaited comeback on the American bebop tradition.
Active in its home city Turku since 2012, the 17-piece big band will welcome a new Artistic Director this year. The orchestra will also receive a new grant from the Arts Promotion Centre Finland that enables a more stable future for the group’s activity.
Two-day tickets are on offer until the end of February.
Jazz & Etno Finland LIVE is a pilot project that was launched in 2016 to create and test a support model for sustainable funding for concert production in Finland. At the moment only jazz and world music businesses are eligible to apply, but in the future the genre borders will open to comprehend all professional event producers.
The final concert of the season will be held at the Lavaklubi of the Finnish National Theatre on Saturday 27 January.
