Five summer-Wednesdays on the Lonna island offer a taste of We Jazz Record’s present and forthcoming recording projects. At the stage are seen OK:KO, 3TM, Mopo, Alder Ego and Bowman Trio. The record music is provided by We Jazz’s DJ collective.
Known as the pioneer at the Finnish jazz field the Helsinki-based We Jazz organizes a five-event series at Lonna in July. The jazz series starts on 4 July and each day includes a live performance from one of the Finnish top-ensembles releasing under We Jazz’s label and the record choices from the We Jazz’s DJ collective. The third Lonna series presents Bowman Trio, drummer Okko Saastamoinen’s OK:KO and drummer Joonas Leppänen’s Alder Ego ensembles, which are preparing their new albums. Teppo Mäkynen’s 3TM, awarder with the Jazz-Emma for the Form album, and Mopo which gained international attention with their new Mopocalypse album, will be seen at Lonna too.
All the events are admission free and the ferry to Lonna departures from Kauppatori.
“The record label growing, it was natural to build this year’s Lonna concerts program on our current release projects”, states We Jazz’s artistic director Matti Nives. “We get to hear plenty of brand-new music under Lonna’s great summer skies.”
The events are held at Lonna’s naval mine storages’ terrace and in case of rain inside the storages. The band play two sets, the first one starting around half past five. The visitors get to Lonna by JT-Lines’ ferries from Kauppatori under ten minutes.
