Finland’s big band championships 2018

The Finnish Big Band Federations celebrates it’s 40th anniversary on 5–6 October. This year, the Finnish Big Band Championships, organized every other year, are held at Arabia Hall (Arabiankatu 2, Helsinki) on 6 October. The event is admission free.



Jazzlegend Charles Mingus autobiography is released in Finnish

The autobiography of Charles Mingus is published first time in Finnish in October. Koiraakin kurjempi (Beneath the Underdog ) is published by Aviador Kustannus and the it is translated by Jussi Niemi. Live interpretations of the Mingus’ music are heard at the book release clubs in Helsinki, Tampere, Kotka and Pori.





Emma Salokoski & UMO Christmas tour

Umo and vocalist Emma Salokoski are heading for a Christmas tour in December. The tour features six concerts in five cities: Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Porvoo and Tampere, from where the tour starts on 7 December.



Flame Jazz super weekend is full of jazz stars

The first Flame Jazz super weekend brings nine Finnish top-notch ensembles to Bar Ö, Turku City Library and Viking Grace. The protection of the Baltic Sea is an important theme at Saturday’s free concerts.


New live album series from We Jazz

Helsiki-based We Jazz Records launches a new album series, We Jazz Live Plates, presenting the label’s live activity. The first release named “Berlin 27.10.17” is to issue on 28 September and it features Bowman Trio, Jaska Lukkarinen Trio and Black Motor.
