Pori Jazz announces first acts for 2019
Renowned American band Toto will perform at Pori Jazz on Saturday, July 20th. Other acts of the 2019 festivals first artist announcement include Beninese world music star Angélique Kidjo and Finnish artists Ville Valo & Agents and J. Karjalainen. Tickets for the 54th Pori Jazz are available for a special price until December 31st at Ticketmaster Finland.
Signe to play on Sunday at the EFG London Jazz Festival
Jazz Finland reported earlier in the fall about Signe's performance at the prestigious Londoner festival. The whole Nordic Jazz Comets five-band showcase at Barbican Centre has drawn the attention of the local jazz industry and also the Embassies of all the five countries are working together to highlight the upcoming Nordic bands.
Esa Pietilä's Liberty Ship returns with new ensemble and album
Once again, the Yrjö awarded saxophonist, Esa Pietilä, leads his noted Liberty Ship ensemble with a new line-up on the waters of free improvisation. The ensemble’s two earlier albums were favourably reviewed both at home and abroad. Recently the ensemble debuted their new music at the Nordic Music Days in Helsinki.

Berlin jazz ensemble Philipp Gropper’s Philm tours in Finland
Saxophonist Philipp Gropper’s Philm quartet performs five concerts in Finland on 28 November to 2 December. In addition to Gropper, the top-notch ensemble consists of pianist Elias Stemeseder, bassist Robert Landfermann and Oliver Steidle.

The 37th annual Tampere Jazz Happening will begin this Thursday, 1st November, 2018. The opening concert of this year’s festival is provided free of charge for the audiences, and features altogether three Austrian ensembles: Mario Rom’s Interzone, Kompost 3, and Elektro Guzzi.
