We Jazz festival in Helsinki 26.11.–3.12. – first performers announced
The tenth We Jazz festival will spread around Helsinki from November 26 to December 3. The first performer announcements are the Norwegian Gard Nilssen's Supersonic Orchestra and Teppo Mäkynen's Stance Brothers, who are returning to the stage after a break of more than ten years. Festival season tickets and Korjaamo's December 2 advance tickets are now on sale at Tiketti.
Teosto Prize awarded to Mikko Sarvanne’s, Draama-Helmi’s and Sanna Ahvenjärvi and Tapio Lappalainen’s works
The winners of the 2023 Teosto Prize are Mikko Sarvanne’s compositions on Mikko Sarvanne Garden’s album Heräämisen valkea myrsky, Helmi Kajaste and her team’s works on Draama-Helmi’s album Draama-Helmi kuistilla and Sanna Ahvenjärvi and Tapio Lappalainen’s composition Water. Recognising bold, original and innovative works of music, the Teosto Prize is one of the biggest art prizes in the Nordic countries. Its total prize money of EUR 40,000 will be divided equally among the winning works.
Urban Jazz-Espa summer event launches full program
The annual Jazz-Espa concert series will once again be seen and heard in Helsinki’s Esplanade Park between 31 July and 5 August. The free concerts will feature close to twenty ensembles, including Valtteri Laurell Nonet feat. Antti Sarpila, Signe, Eero Koivistoinen, DANTCHEV:DOMAIN, and Mikko Innanen’s New Quintet.
Turku Jazz Orchestra's spring concert features big band classics
Gems of big band music made famous by the legendary orchestras of Duke Ellington and Count Basie will be heard on Friday April 21 in Logomo's Teatro hall. Turku Jazz Orchestra's own top musicians play the main roles in the concert.

Jazz legend Herbie Hancock visits Finland in July
Herbie Hancock, one of the biggest legends of jazz and modern rhythm music, returns to Finland! The multiple Grammy winner will perform in the unique concert milieu of Helsinki's Allas Sea Pool on Tuesday, July 25. Tickets for the gig are now on sale at Lippu.fi.
UNESCO's International Jazz Day celebrates jazz as a messenger of peace and intercultural dialogue on April 30
April 30 celebrates UNESCO's International Jazz Day once again. In addition to jazz itself, the core message of the day is peace, intercultural cooperation, and respect for human dignity and human rights. In Finland the message is carried forward by the Finnish Jazz Federation's week-long Jazzpäivä campaign, featuring as its faces the brilliant jazz legends Olli Ahvenlahti and Iro Haarla.
KYN releases an impressive collection of new female choir music on April 13
One of Finland's leading female choirs KYN will release a new album Varjoista on April 13 in honor of its 40th anniversary. The album features three new female choral series commissioned by KYN, composed by Mikko Hassinen, Kirmo Lintinen and Riikka Talvitie. The choral series, drawing influences from jazz and contemporary music, are united by award-winning poet Harry Salmenniemi's work Yö ja lasi, from which the composers have chosen the texts for their compositions. The album release concert will be held on April 13 at Temppelinaukio church.
