Herbie Hancock, one of the biggest legends of jazz and modern rhythm music, returns to Finland! The multiple Grammy winner will perform in the unique concert milieu of Helsinki's Allas Sea Pool on Tuesday, July 25. Tickets for the gig are now on sale at Lippu.fi.

Herbie Hancock has made history with his music in seven different decades. In his career, the pianist and composer legend has been awarded, among other things, 14 Grammy awards (e.g. album of the year River: The Joni Letters) and an Oscar for the best original film score (Round Midnight). The bold visionary has combined the musical currents of each era in his production, and very few artists have had as powerful an impact on jazz and R&B music as Hancock.

Born in Chicago in 1940, Herbie Hancock began his career as a piano virtuoso in his childhood years, who at the age of 11 performed Mozart's music together with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In high school, Hancock immersed himself in the world of jazz, inspired by Oscar Peterson and Bill Evans. In the 1960s, he ended up collaborating with jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd, which eventually led to his own recording contract as a solo artist and the release of his debut album Takin' Off in 1963. Trumpeter Miles Davis invited Hancock to join his legendary quintet, in which the pianist played for five years together with Wayne Shorter (tenor saxophone ), with Ron Carter (double bass) and Tony Williams (drums).

After his classic solo albums Maiden Voyage, Empyrean Isles and Speak Like a Child, Herbie Hancock put together a new band called The Headhunters. The band's debut album, released in 1973, became the first platinum-selling jazz album of all time. In his later career, Hancock has released dozens of studio albums and has fearlessly taken influences from e.g. electronic music.

During his venerable career, Hancock has collaborated with stars such as Chick Corea, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Sting, Annie Lennox, John Mayer, Christina Aguilera and many more. His songs have inspired younger generations and provided sample material for countless hip-hop and dance music producers.
