We Jazz 2019: MARIA FAUST MACHINA (EE/DK/US), ELLIOT GALVIN (UK)Valkoinen sali, helsinki7.12. At 18:00
Elliot Galvin
Maria Faust Machina
This early evening concert will bring together two fantastic rising stars of the scene. Well, actually they are both stars aleady but they are still rising even more, you dig? Elliot Galvin’s solo piano performance will open proceedings. The Edition Records recording artist’s solo performance was one of the highlights of the recent Jazzahead! fest in Bremen, and that’s saying something because there were A LOT of great bands there. Still, number one, right here. Come on in and witness.
Maria Faust is a dear friend of the We Jazz collective already from the previous editions (remember Sacrum Facere and her amazing solo set?) and now she presents yet another fantastic band in Machina. A very organic group despite the name, “Machina” is pastoral and powerful music which will never leave you side once you open up the door and step into its world.
“An exciting, touching journey.” – freejazzblog.org

The Saturday night extravaganza at the old powerplant area Suvilahti will showcase many shades of current jazz music and then some. All of the artists performing at this event have their own view of what forward-looking jazz music sounds like now and going into the future. There’s a distinct “ahead-of-timeness” to each of the acts hand-picked for this Saturday night marathon.
Teppo Mäkynen’s trio formation 3TM will present their fresh new and AWESOME We Jazz Records album “Lake”, UK DIY kings of intense groove-based jazz, Ill Considered, make their Finnish debut, as will do Belgium’s MDCIII, a hard-hitting group of reeds man Mattias De Craene plus two drummers. Heavy!
Hubro Music recording artists Hilde Marie Holsen presents her album “Lazuli”, which is some beautiful ambient-sounding meditative jazz. Dutch underground legend Ronald Langestraat visits with his four-piece band. Check out his releases on Amsterdam’s South Of North label, who’s DJs will also be joining in on the fun.
At the Mittarikorjaamo room, one of our absolute favourite bands VIRTA hosts their festival-within-the-festival, VIRTA Festival, the contents of which remain a secret even to the We Jazz people at the time of writing.
Our goal is to walk away into the pitch black December night after this event thoroughly inspired and we wish the same for you.
Please note that the age limit for this event is 18.
