Jazz Finland Live

In the Evening Longing concert KYN premieres a commissions, Illalla (In the Evening) by Mikko Hassinen. Text is chosen from a book Yö ja lasi (Night and Glass) (2018) by an awarded poet Harry Salmenniemi. Live electronics by Mikko Hassinen himself and spoken texts from the background tape intertwine in this five movement nocturnal suite. According to Hassinen, his goal has been to approach the harmonies and atmosphere of Illalla (In the Evening) from the Scandinavian jazz perspective. He sees the text as a portrayal of a nocturnal mental landscape.
"Nightly setting mingles with memories surging into ones mind. Memories that feel painful but can also be comforting. At times, behind the melancholy there is a glimpse of hope." tells Mikko Hassinen about his composition. Also the other pieces heard in the concert takes the listener to the same ambiance. Music from Juan Manuel Conejo, Anders Edenroth, Anna-Mari Kähärä and Timothy C. Takach. In the Evening Longing concert also vibraphonist Panu Savolainen plays with KYN.
