The Great Helsinki Swing Big Band takes over Kulttuuritalo with their soloist and presents the classic tunes of Glenn Miller. Glenn Miller Ballroom concert is held on Friday 15 of March with soloists Juki Välipakka and vocal band Andrew’s Girls. The concert is conducted by Antti Rissanen.
The concert features the biggest hits of Glenn Miller Orchestra; In the Mood, Moonlight Serenade and Pennsylvania 6-5000. Tickets cost 31,00-35,00 euros and they are on sale on Ticketmaster online shop.
The Great Helsinki Swing Big Band was formed in 2005 and it performs the music of the 1930s and 40s. The orchestra’s permanent conductor is Antti Rissanen, and the founder of the orchestra, trumpeter Sami Pyöhönen works both as an intendent and the leader of the orchestra. The Great Helsinki Swing Big Band association oversees the artistic direction of the orchestra.
The first record of the orchestra, In The Glenn Miller Mood, was released in the spring 2017. It was followed by Groovy Moments and Melodies (2011), Santa Claus Swinging Christmas Concert (2011) and Ranskalaiset korot – Erik Lindströmin musiikkia (2012).
Since 2006, The Great Helsinki Swing Big Band has performed monthly with variable themes to the full house at the Malmitalo. In addition, they have had performances at the festivals and at the Musiikkitalo and Verkatehdas.
