Ed Partyka is UMO’s new artistic director & chief conductor

American composer, trombonist/tubist, composer/arranger and conductor Edward (Ed) A. Partyka has been named as artistic director and chief conductor of UMO Jazz Orchestra. Composer, pianist and band leader Guillermo Klein, 49, has been named as Artistic Partner 2020–2021. 


We Jazz 2019 first acts announced  

This year’s We Jazz festival offered eight days of jazz experiences on surprising venues around Helsinki. The next We Jazz festival is held on 1.-8-12.2019 in Helsinki. The first announced acts include Norwegian trumpeter Hilde Marie Holsen, OK:KO, Teppo Mäkynen’s 3TM and post jazz band VIRTA, who will held their own  festival in the festival. The festival passes for We Jazz 2019 are now on sale.


Ten-time Grammy winner Bobby McFerrin and other main acts announced for April Jazz

April Jazz festival, held on 24-28 April in Espoo has announced its main acts: singer Bobby McFrerrin,  awarded with ten Grammy awards; a three-time Grammy winner and  guitarist legend, John Scofield; saxophonist Joshua Redman with his jazz trio and Norwegian saxophonist Marius Neset who performs with his quintet and Tapiola Sinfonietta.






Pori Jazz announces first acts for 2019

Renowned American band Toto will perform at Pori Jazz on Saturday, July 20th. Other acts of the 2019 festivals first artist announcement include Beninese world music star Angélique Kidjo and Finnish artists Ville Valo & Agents and J. Karjalainen. Tickets for the 54th Pori Jazz are available for a special price until December 31st at Ticketmaster Finland.



Esa Pietilä's Liberty Ship returns with new ensemble and album

Once again, the Yrjö awarded saxophonist, Esa Pietilä, leads his noted Liberty Ship ensemble with a new line-up on the waters of free improvisation. The ensemble’s two earlier albums were favourably reviewed both at home and abroad. Recently the ensemble debuted their new music at the Nordic Music Days in Helsinki.
