Jazz Finland and Yle Jazzradio awards to Riitta Paakki, Veli-Pekka Heinonen and Jyrki Laiho

The most prestigious prizes in the Finnish jazz industry were given at Tampere Jazz Happening festival on Friday the 1st of November. Jazz Finland granted the annual Yrjö Award to pianist Riitta Paakki. The award art piece was created by Anita Naukkarinen. Jazz Finland honoured the life’s work of Yle Radio’s music producer Veli-Pekka Heinonen by Andania award. Yle Jazzradio’s Varjo-Yrjö recognition was presented to Jyrki Laiho, a seasoned promotor and label manager Jyrki Laiho.



Iro Haarla Quartet on tour 30.10.–29.11

Iro Haarla presented her new Iro Haarla Quartet first time at Pori Jazz 2018. Pianist-harpist and composer Haarla’s ensemble consists of saxophonist Juhani Aaltonen, bassist Ulf Krokfors and drummer Markku Ounaskari. Their concert at Porvoo Jazz Festival in September marked the beginning of an extensive tour, which stops in 12 cities around the country over the autumn.



Saxophonist Mikko Innanen releases the debut album of his new Autonomus ensemble

Fiasko Records releases two Mikko Innanen’s albums in November. With his new ensemble, Autonomous, they release their debut album called “I-XXX”. At the same time Innanen says goodbye to his Mikko Innanen 10+ orchestra with the release of live album “Pori/Malmi”. The album release concert for “I-XXX” takes place at Balder Hall on 4 November.



International top-notch trio at Turku Jazz Festival in March!

Turku Jazz Festival invites the audience to enjoy the colours of world music as the Cameroonian-born bassist virtuoso Richard Bona brings his new ensemble, featuring Cuban pianist Alfredo Rodriguez and American drummer Taylor Gordon, to the Logomo stage.
