Award-winning Austrian pianist David Helbock to Turku

One of the rising stars of European jazz, David Helbock, brings his trio to Turku’s Café Tiljan on 11 September. Helbock, whose most recent recording, Aural Colors, has received plenty of acclaim in international media, is one of this autumn’s international guests of the Flame Jazz concert series.



We Jazz 2015 programme and magazine released

We Jazz festival, Helsinki’s largest-scale annual jazz event, is organised in December 2015 for the third time. Now spanning a whole week, the event features American pianist Vijay Iyer with his trio, German jazz legend Gunter Hampel and a host of the moment’s best Finnish jazz artists including Timo Lassy Band, Teddy's West Coasters, Juhani Aaltonen Trio, Verneri Pohjola Quartet and Jukka Perko Jazztet. As in the two previous years, We Jazz has come up with entirely new settings for jazz performances: this year will see a tram concert, a loft jazz house party and a series of concerts in a studio flat in Töölö. Tickets will be available for purchase on 8 September.


Flame Jazz and Food & Fun Turku to combine great jazz with great food

The Turku-based concert series Flame Jazz and Food & Fun Turku have joined forces on a new concept that brings together top jazz and delicious food in a fresh, new way. The collaborative venture kicks off on the first weekend of September, at the Flame Jazz Opening Weekend, offering the audience a treat in many senses of the word. Discount tickets to concerts will be available for customers of any restaurant that takes part in the Food & Fun Festival.


UMO releases 40th anniversary programme for autumn

2015 has seen the 40th anniversary of Finland’s number one big band, UMO Jazz Orchestra. The programme of the past spring season treated us to a string of unique concerts: flashbacks to the orchestra’s best moments, some of the jazz world’s most sought-after soloists and premieres from prestigious Finnish composers. UMO's autumn programme, which has now been released, will follow the same jubilant pattern.Tickets to all concerts are available for purchase.



The 15th Viapori Jazz to take over Suomenlinna 26-28 August

Viapori Jazz, known for its unique marine atmosphere and for presenting high-quality, often one-off line-ups has prepared us a delicious half-week of jazz again. Next week, a number of Suomenlinna’s historical venues will be hosting jazz performances from the likes of Jukka Perko & Iiro Rantala duo, Dallapé, Mikko Sarvanne Hip Company with poet Jussi Pelkonen, Teppo Mäkynen, Tommy Lindgren and Jussi Kannaste trio and The Reporters feat. the globe-trotting journalist Riku Rantala.




Mikko Innanen to host another club series at Bar Favela this autumn

Starting from 1 September , Töölö’s Bar Favela will be turned into a jazz club again. The Tiistaijatsit (Tuesday Jazz) club series is hosted by Mikko Innanen who has invited a number of friends – Finnish and international – to take the stage with him on the first Tuesday of each month.
