DIG. Festival presents jazz from three continents

To be organised at Music Centre in Helsinki 15- 17 October, this year’s DIG. festival features American drummer Jeff “Tain” Watts, Brazilian guitarist and vocalist Chico Pinheiro and sax players Fredrik Lndborg, Walter Smith III and Jerry Bergonzi. Naturally also some of their best Finnish colleagues from the jazz department of the Sibelius Academy will take the stage at the three-day event.


How I was drawn to Finnish music

Pianist-composer and co-owner of the British Edition Records label, Dave Stapleton is no stranger to Finnish jazz and musicianship. Edition has released i.e. Verneri Pohjola's, Olavi Louhivuori's and Alexi Tuomarila's music. In the latest Jazzpresso he reveals why the Finns have a special place in his heart.



ECM signee Dominique Pifarély to tour Finland extensively

Starting from Helsinki on 29 September, Free Voices, Free Sounds tour takes the French violinist to 14 different locations around Finland. Pifarély will be joined at some of the concerts by his fellow countryman, bass player Claude Tchamitchian and pianist Aki Rissanen whose newest solo album is due out later this autumn.


UMO to organise a concert to welcome asylum seekers

UMO Jazz Orchestra and the congregation of Kallio organise concert event Human meets Human for asylum seekers lodging at the reception centres of Helsinki. The event takes place at Kallio Church and Kallio Church park on Monday 28 September from 3-5PM. All are welcome.



Teemu Åkerblom album launch at Flame Jazz Talent Night

Flame Jazz Talent Night, focussing on up-and-coming jazz stars, presents Teemu Åkerblom Quartet in an album-launching show at Turku's Jazz Club Monk. The album came out roughly a week ago on the legendary label Jazzaggression, run by Finland-based Norwegian DJ Fredrik Lavik. Åkerblom’s album sees a new chapter in the label's catalogue, so far mainly specified on reissues.
