Young and up-and-coming, Buba Wii Aa is a trio formed by three promising Finnish jazzers. This month the group will go on a unique tour, performing in art galleries and museums around the country.
Buba Wii Aa, who brought out their debut album on cassette and in digital format two months ago, is to hit the road on their first Finnish tour. The tour will take jazz music to the unusual venues of the museum and the art gallery, aiming at a union of the visual and the aural and suggesting that live music does not need to be shut up in clubs and concert halls. The tour also provides a good excuse to celebrate the first release, Taco Taco Taco! which was not only a debut for Buba Wii Aa as a recording artist but also that for We Jazz as a label. The first press of 100 copies sold out in a short amount of time but more copies will be available for purchase around the time of the tour. The tour will be co-produced by We Jazz and Mio Mio Productions.
The tour comprises shows at art museums in Tampere, Oulu, Jyväskylä and Turku and at an art gallery and a start-up event in Helsinki. Kicking off their tour from start-up event Slush’s opening party on 10 November, Buba Wii Aa will play at Miikka Pirinen’s exhibition Remembering Forwards at Helsinki Contemporary art gallery on Wednesday 11 November. Thursday 12 November will see them giving a show at Sara Hildén Art Museum in bassist Eero Seppä’s hometown Tampere, from where they will proceed to that of Mikael Myrskog’s, performing at Oulu Art Museum. Jyväskylä has the privilege of enjoying the group twice during the same day: first at Galleria Ratamo and later at Paahtimo Papu’s Tuff Jazzin’ club night. The tour will be wrapped up at Turku’s Sibeliusmuseo on 15 November.
Buba Wii Aa is composed of organist Mikael Myrskog, bassist Eero Seppä and drummer Sami Nummela. One of the most promising recent newcomers onto the Finnish jazz scene, the trio draws from the atmosphere of the 1960s San Francisco and plays cinematic pieces which capture the beat of urban life. Their debut EP Taco Taco Taco! was released by We Jazz on 25 September on cassette and digitally.
