Led by one of the pioneers of Finnish jazz, Eero Koivistoinen takes his thoroughbred team around Finland at the turn of December. The group will perform material from their new album Hati Hati, in eight Finnish cities in total.
The Finnish Jazz Federation’s tour season for the autumn 2015 will reach its grand finale when one of the fathers of Finnish jazz takes his stellar quartet to eight Finnish cities at the turn of December. Saxophonist Eero Koivistoinen has hand-picked some of the most gifted players of their generation into his team: Alexi Tuomarila on the piano, Jori Huhtala on the bass and Jussi Lehtonen on the drums. Their newest release Hati Hati came out earlier this year on Svart Records and was preceded by a long-awaited reissue of Koivistoinen’s classic 1971 album The Original Sin. The tour will see the star-studded group play live in Nurmes, Oulu, Kuopio, Joensuu, Raahe, Lappeenranta, Turku and Tallinn.
Eero Koivistoinen (b. 1946) is one of the best-known Finnish jazz musicians of all time. He started his career in the mid-1960s in a trio with drummer Edward Vesala and bassist Pekka Sarmanto – a group which was to take the sound of Finnish jazz to so far unheard of a direction. Koivistoinen became the first artist to receive the annual Yrjö jazz prize from the that time newly founded Finnish Jazz Federation. Known for his versatility, creativity and unerring sense of style, Koippa is also a sought-after guest on the albums of younger-generation musicians. Active in its current form since 2012, Eero Koivistoinen Quartet itself is an example of a group whose members come from different generations.
