KYN celebrate their 35th anniversary, release a new album

Women choir KYN release an album of new music by composer Mikko Hassinen. The album launch show takes place on 26 October at Helsinki's Savoy Theatre with KYN being joined by top jazzers Hassinen, Manuel Dunkel and Ville Herrala. 



Peace, Friendship and Equality this autumn's themes at Afrojazz Club

Afrojazz Club delivers danceable afrobeat and world music at restaurant Storyville, Helsinki, once a month throughout the autumn. Before the shows, there will be a guest speaker giving a talk about topics that touch about values important to Afrojazz Club, such as multiculturalism, humanitarianism, environment, social and spiritual questions. The season will be opened on Thursday 20 October. 


Radio Helsinki will be bought by Livelaboratorio Oy

Limited company, Livelaboratorio Oy that runs the new venue G Livelab in Helsinki, has confirmed to have made a preliminary agreement to buy the radio channel Radio Helsinki from Kaupunkitarinat Oy. Livelaboratorio Oy is owned by the Finnish Musicians' Union.

 



Guitarist Wyane Krantz gives a show at Helsinki’s club Tavastia

Jazz fusion guitarist Wayne Krantz will be hitting the road in October to play in the U.S., Asia and Europe on the extensive Undercover Pop Tour. The tour will see Krantz land in Finland on Tuesday 29 November, giving a show at Helsinki’s long-running rock club, Tavastia. The night will be culminating in the 21-piece Espoo Big Band and jazz fusion group Husband’s collab project Lauma. Tickets are now available for purchase on Tiketti.


DIG. Jazz Festival offers top-class jazz with an African and Afro-Cuban twist

Helsinki's Music Centre plays host to the three-day festival DIG. on 10 - 12 October. Hosted by the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki, this year's line-up features the pianist Aaron Goldberg, singer-guitarist Joyce Moreno, guitarist Pasquale Grasso and saxophonist Fredrik Kronkvist. The artists will also be giving guest lectures to the students of the Academy during their visit.

Vapaat äänet (Free Voices and Sounds) agency celebrates its 20 years of work in French-Finnish culture exchange. To join the festivities, Finnish Jazz Federation gives away ticket packages to the two anniversary concerts in November in Malmitalo, Helsinki and Sellosali, Espoo.


Vapaat äänet celebrates its two decades of free jazz

Vapaat äänet (Free Voices & Sounds) agency has animated the Finnish jazz scene with a French touch since 1996, when manager Charles Gil first started the Finnish-French culture exchange by bringing French bands to perform in Finland and vice versa. In 2016 Vapaat äänet celebrates its 20th anniversary. In the peak of the festivities are two concerts in Malmitalo the 1st of November and in Sellosali the 3rd of the month.
