The bi-monthly We Jazz session at Kuudes linja. This time We Jazz club presents a rare live show by Jukka Eskola Orquesta Bossa. The other act on stage will be Äänikkö, a group formed by Markus Pesonen and Olavi Louhivuori - live for the first time ever!

Trumpeter Jukka Eskola, one of the most distinguished Finnish jazz artists of the day, leads his recently formed nine-piece, Orquesta Bossa, onto Kuudes Linja stage this Saturday. We will also be in for an exciting stage debut as, Äänikkö, composed of Berlin-based artist, Markus Pesonen, and the Oddarrang leading man, Olavi Louhivuori, will give their first ever live performance. We Jazz DJ's together with National RGB VJ's will of course be entertaining the audience in the intervals and until small hours. Tickets are available on Tiketti.fi.

Jukka Eskola Orquesta Bossa consists of an acclaimed jazz quintet complemented by the strings of Proton String Quartet. The group released their first album in September 2013. While bossa nova is soundwise very much present, Eskola’s compositions take a new approach to the tradition. Jukka Eskola (b. 1978) is one of the most talented and well-known musicians of his generation in Finland. He is perhaps best-known as the trumpeter of the classy The Five Corners Quintet and as the frontman of his own group, Jukka Eskola Quintet. His solo albums Jukka Eskola (2005), Hub Up (2006), released exclusively in Japan, and Walkover (2009) have elevated the charismatic trumpeter to the forefront of Finnish jazz music. In recent years, Eskola has delighted the audience again and again with his acclaimed and fresh projects.

Äänikkö, performing for the first time tonight at We Jazz Club is Markus Pesonen and Olavi Louhivuori's new group. Berlin-based Pesonen hase been noted especially for his input in the group Hendectet's album Hum (2011). The versatile composer and multi-instrumentalist is familiar from several groups, one of which, ¡haUtUllin!, visited Finland in 2013. Drummer-composer Olavi Louhivuori is a key presence in such acclaimed bands as Oddarrang, SUN Trio, Ilmiliekki Quartet, Tomasz Stanko Quintet ja Alexi Tuomarila Trio.

We Jazz club, organised regularly at Kuudes Linja in Helsinki since December 2009, has become an important part of the Finnish jazz scene. In addition to high-class DJ'ing, We Jazz showcases topical jazz groups. We Jazz has also recieved some official recognition as one of its driving forces, Matti Nives, was granted the Varjo Yrjö prize by Finnish Broadcasting Company's Jazzradio. We Jazz has also branched out as a festival, which was inaugurated in last December. The second edition will be organised this year.
