biography
Verneri Pohjola (b. 1977), "Miles Davis of Scandinavia", has been awarded several times both as a soloartist (i.a. the Pori Jazz Young Artist of the Year in 2004) and with Ilmiliekki Quartet (i.a. Teosto Prize in 2004). The first solo album of Pohjola, Aurora (Texicalli 2009/ACT 2001), received the Emma Award as the Jazz Album of the Year in 2009 and got excellent feedback from critics from U.S. and Europe. At the latest with his second album, Ancient History (ACT 2012), Pohjola proved to be one of the most distinguished jazzmusicians in Europe. On his second ACT-release Pohjola also presents his own band, Verneri Pohjola Quartet, that consists of the top jazzmusicians of the younger Finnish jazz generation.
