Black Motor is dead, long live Black Motor!

Black Motor has always been about gifted, open and versatile musical minds coming together and heading into the unknown without fear. After ten years, a new page is turned as drummer Simo Laihonen and bassist Ville Rauhala bid farewell to Sami Sippola and invite Tane Kannisto to join forces with them. The skilled saxophonist, best known for his work with Edward Vesala’s legendary end-of-the-Millennium line-up Sound & Fury, embarked on his maiden voyage aboard Black Motor already in November 2014. Tane makes his recorded debut with Ville and Simo on new track Interdependence Day.



Aki Rissanen // Jussi Lehtonen Quartet with Dave Liebman to tour Germany toward the end of March

On the recently-released album, "Aki Rissanen // Jussi Lehtonen Quartet with Dave Liebman", the Finns Rissanen, Lehtonen and bassist Jori Huhtala are joined by the legendary American saxophonist, Dave Liebman. The quartet is now heading to Germany to play three live shows at three renowned jazz clubs: A-Trane in Berlin on 25 March, Unterfahrt in Munich on 26 March and in Garmisch-Partenkirchen's JazzGap, in the German Alps, on 27 March. The album came out internationally on 13 February on the German label, Ozella Music.


Big Band School run by Turku Jazz Orchestra to offer pop/jazz classes in April

Turku Jazz Orchestra’s Big Band School is looking for students! The school runs a periodically and offers big band lessons for amateur musicians of all ages from beginners to advanced-level players. Two orchestras will be formed, of which one is aimed at less-experienced, the other at experienced students. Registration is open until Friday 27 March on Turku Jazz Orchestra’s website.




Verneri Pohjola to celebrate new album by performing at Finnish National Theatre 22 March

Published by the British label Edition Records, Verneri Pohjola Quartet's newest album has become one of the definitive releases of the early 2015 in Finnish jazz. The album-launching show, taking place on the main stage of the Finnish National Theatre on 22 March, will no doubt be a memorable event. Pohjola's able crew is composed pianist Aki Rissanen, bassist Antti Lötjönen and drummer Teppo Mäkynen. The album will be available on vinyl in late April.
