Koko kesä Kalliossa to entertain us all summer long

Pulsating in the heart of Kallio, Koko Jazz Club has brought us jazz concerts on a regular basis already for five years. This summer will see the popular Koko kesä Kalliossa concert series return to the club already for the fourth time with the best Finnish pop and rock stars. They will perform their best-loved songs with a twist: namely, accompanied by a jazz orchestra. The able Koko Jazz Club house band is conducted by vibraphone player Arttu Takalo.

The philosophy behind the Koko kesä Kalliossa concert series is to show that jazz music can be accessible to anyone. Undoubtedly, the series has managed to introduce jazz to hundreds of new listeners every summer and this year will hardly reverse the pattern: the programme is simply so alluring.

Summer 2015 will see both familiar faces from previous years and entirely new guests stepping onto Koko’s stage. We can safely expect memorable performances from the queen of the Finnish popular music, Paula Koivuniemi, and the fixed star, Arja Saijonmaa. Finnish rock will be represented by such names as Olavi Uusivirta and Kalle Ahola, while among the first appearances Koko presents pop singer Irina who recently issued a new album.

The house band is composed of some of the best Finnish musicians, including Arttu Takalo (vibraphone), Varre Vartiainen (guitar), Niko Kumpuvaara (accordion), Timo Hirvonen (bass) and Jussi Lehtonen (drums).

The concert series is kicked off on Friday 29 May with the phenomenal Tuure Kilpeläinen.
