Timo Lassy, one of the most acclaimed of Finnish jazz artists, has released a music video for the title track of his new album, Love Bullet. The video features Finnish actress Katariina Kaitue and actor Jussi Nikkilä. Both the album and the video came out on 29 May. The sax man launches his fourth studio album on 3 June at club Dubrovnik in Helsinki. The concert is sold out.
One of the release events of the year undoubtedly took place on 29 May when Timo Lassy brought out his new album, Love Bullet, on German label Membran and its sub-brand Must Have Jazz. The fourth studio album takes the expression of the charismatic tenor man and his tight-knit crew to the next level, while retaining the essence of their distinctive, warm sound. On the same say came out a video for the album's title track "Love Bullet" - the first part of a whole of two videos. The video is directed by the Helsinki-based VHS-Film Crew and it features Finnish actress Katariina Kaitue and actor Jussi Nikkilä.
Timo Lassy Band will perform live on 3 June at club Dubrovnik in Helsinki to celebrate the release. The album-launching event comprises two full-length sets. Both performances are sold out. The group can be seen live later in the summer at Flow Festival and Pori Jazz Festival and in Britain at Brecon Jazz Festival.
Love Bullet features the core crew, familiar from Lassy’s previous albums: Georgios Kontrafouris on the Wurlitzer piano and organ; Antti Lötjönen on the bass; Teppo Mäkynen on the drums and Abdissa Assefa on the percussion. In addition, trumpeter Jukka Eskola and vibes player Panu Savolainen appear as guests.
“While my previous studio album was a cooking session, all about spontaneous feels, Love Bullet is a more concentrated effort”, Lassy says. “The main emphasis is on compositions that make up a harmonious whole.”
M. A. Numminen, a cornerstones of Finnish cultural life, has provided the sleeve notes. He writes that Lassy’s music “realises a certain metaphysical approach , which allows the listener to experience the sacredness of jazz music.”
