Dalindèo charmed at Kirjazz

The sixth edition of Kirjazz organised was organised last Saturday at Kirjaslampi Dance Pavilion in Valkeskoski. In addition to the warm weather, the audience was treated to steaming hot jazz music.


KYN to Riga to compete in The World Choir Games

KYN, one of the most acclaimed Finnish women’s choirs, is heading to Riga, Latvia, to participate in The World Choir Games competition this week. With 460 choirs from 73 different countries, it is the biggest choir singing competition of the world. KYN will participate in the Champions Competition, which is aimed at choirs that have proven themselves proficient in international competitions and festivals before. KYN’s repertoire for the Games has been compiled from Finnish and non-Finnish classic choral music for women’s choir and ethnic jazz music, KYN’s speciality.



Pepe Willberg to headline Kellokosken Kesäsoitto festival

Riku Niemi Orchestra organises Kellokosken Kesäsoitto festival this year for the fourth time. The orchestra’s very own jazz and pop -oriented festival runs from Thursday 24 to Sunday 27 July in Kellokoski. In addition to Riku Niemi Orchestra itself, the festival presents artists and groups invited by the host orchestra.


Kirjazz to ring out in Valkeakoski on 5 July

The sixth edition of Kirjazz Festival is organised this summer on 5 July in Valkeakoski, at Kirjaslampi Dance Pavilion. The headliner of this year’s festival is one of the most talked-about of new-generation Finnish jazz combos, Dalindèo. Other artists include local group, OJS, with vocalist Lili Lambert.




We Jazz 2014 to open at Aleksanterin teatteri on 8 December

The opening concert of the second We Jazz happening presents American trumpeter Avishai Cohen with his trio, Teppo Mäkynen’s Serenity Ensemble, and Jussi Fredriksson’s rare solo piano performance. The opening address of the jazz week will be given by M. A. Numminen, the patron of the festival. This year the festival tests the appeal of a new, special ticket type.


Tampere Jazz Happening to take over Copenhagen!

Last year, Tampere Jazz Happening introduced three Danish jazz groups at the festival’s opening concert. The fruitful co-operation continues this year in the shape of band exchange, as three groups from Tampere have been booked to play at Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2014. Copenhagen Jazz Festival begins next week, on 4 July.


Kalkkiranta Jazz happening counts on household names

Kalkkiranta Jazz, organised in Sipoo by the sea on 16 August, brings some of the brightest stars of Finnish jazz on the stage. This year’s performers are Tuomo, Timo Kärmäräinen & Teemu Viinikainen duo and trio HERD & Aili Ikonen with a special guest, Vieno Kekkonen. The driving force behind the programme has been the festival’s new artistic director, vibraphonist Panu Savolainen.
